So I'm setting up stuff here on Dreamwidth now that tumblr has gone for censorship and I couldn't find a public Miraculous Ladybug community.

So I made one. I'll edit this post soon with more practical stuff, but for now - everyone is welcome, please be civil.

Also note that I am against censorship and have no sympathy for or with exclusionists or antis of any flavour.

If you join, feel free to introduce yourself in the comments.

EDIT:
I have tweaked the security settings to turn OFF IP-logging for non-anonymous comments. I have also set it to show a text-based captcha to anonymous commenters as a preemptive anti-spam measure. I don't mind anonymous contributions at all, but spam is (as ever) most unwelcome and anonymous trolling will be frozen/screened as required.

Hi there! As setup for a story I'm working on, I'm looking for help coming up with some Miraculous-themed cocktails. Specifically, I was thinking of theming them after the various attacks the Parisian superheroes use. The problem is, I know next to nothing about fancy alcoholic drinks! Or even mundane alcoholic drinks, for that matter. I'd love at least four drink ideas for my story, and anyone who helps will be credited in the opening notes. The characters appearing in the fic will be Alya, Marinette, Nino, and Adrien, and Alya is doing a story on the new cocktails for the Ladyblog.

My thoughts so far )

The first nine episodes of the season have aired in French; the first six have in English. We have confirmed air dates for English dub of "Passion", "Reunion", and "Elation" (apparently 5x09 has a different name in English than French): the next three Saturdays. We know several episodes have been finished for months—of particular note are "Transmission" and "Deflagration", the tenth and eleventh episodes that taken together are the two-part "The Kwamis' Choice"—but until today we only had air dates for the first nine.

Gloob is airing 5x12 "Perfection" and 5x18 "Emotion" on November 21.

Summary:

To whom does your loyalty cleave? Cleave indeed. Nathalie thought she knew that answer, but never let it be said she's outright lied to herself for cause.

Or, Hawkmoth absolutely left that phone line wide open, and Mayura may be wounded in at least three senses of the word, but she's not down yet.

Tag to 'Strike Back'. Spoilers in both implication and outright depiction for season 4's finale.

Disney US airs new episodes in English on Saturdays, 10:00a Eastern Time | 7:00a Pacific Time. Gloob airs new episodes in Brazilian Portuguese on Mondays, 19:30 Brasilia Time | 3:30p Pacific Time. TFOU airs new episodes in French at 10h20 Central European Time | 1:20a Pacific Time.

5x01 "Evolution" has already aired on Disney US.

5x02 "Multiplication" has already aired on Gloob; Disney US will air it on October 15.

5x03 "Destruction" will premiere on Gloob on October 17. It will then air on Disney US on October 22.

5x04 "Jubilation" will air on Disney Italy on October 26, though I do not have confirmation of that or of what time this will be, or even if it's only in Italian or if (like Disney Spain) Disney Italy does dual audio. I do have confirmation of TFOU on October 27. It will then air on Disney US on October 29. It seems likely Gloob will air the Brazilian Portuguese dub on October 24, but this is not confirmed.

5x05 "Illusion" will premiere on TFOU on November 2. It will then air on Disney US on November 5. It is at least possible Gloob will try to have it out October 31, but that is still not early enough to compel people watching in world premiere order to watch in episode chronological order, because…

5x06 "Determination" will premiere on TFOU on October 28. It will then air on Disney US on November 12.

5x07 "Passion" will premiere on TFOU on October 31. It will then air on Disney US on November 19.

5x08 "Reunion" will premiere on TFOU on November 1. It will then air on Disney US on November 26.

While we know that several more episodes have been completed, Zag is determined that this season will air in order—no, I don't know why TFOU isn't rearranging their airing order to get 5x05 a few days earlier, now that they're sure enough it'll be ready soon to schedule it to begin with—and we do not have known air dates for anything after 5x08.

We do however have the rest of the titles:

5x09 "Exaltation"
5x10 "Transmission (The Kwamis' Choice Pt. 1)"
5x11 "Deflagration (The Kwamis' Choice Pt. 2)"
5x12 "Perfection"
5x13 "Migration"
5x14 "Derision"
5x15 "Intuition"
5x16 "Protection"
5x17 "Adoration"
5x18 "Emotion"
5x19 "Pretension"
5x20 "Revelation"
5x21 "Confrontation"
5x22 "Collusion"
5x23 "Revolution"
5x24 "Representation"
5x25 "Confirmation (The Last Day Pt. 1)"
5x26 "Re-Creation (The Last Day Pt. 2)"
Special "Action"

The only episodes that have yet to air in any language are 4x20 "Qilin", 4x24 "Penalteam", and 4x26 "Strike Back".

We are expecting "Qilin" in English on Saturday February 12, "Penalteam" in Brazilian Portuguese on Monday February 14 and in English on Saturday February 26, and "Strike Back" in English on Saturday March 12. We are also expecting 4x23 "Kuro Neko" in English on Saturday February 19, but we already have it in Brazilian Portuguese.

Notice how 4x25 "Risk", the first half of the season finale, is not on that list. Apparently some technician at Spectrum cable clicked the wrong thing, and therefore we got that episode in English last night.

I'm new on Dreamwidth, so if I do something wrong here, please let me know!

One thing I noticed in Psycomedian again is a classic foundation of the show: Marinette is sometimes embarrassed, but not really humiliated. And when she’s humiliated, it’s never played as a joke. When Marinette completely fails to make Adrien laugh at her jokes, yes, that is partly a joke. But when it finally goes wrong and she runs away crying, that is portrayed as a tragedy. And the show makes sure that before it’s over, Adrien specifically tells her that they’re okay and that he absolutely respects her.

This is a common part of how the show works, and has been shown plenty of times before. The most obvious example is the statue scene in Puppeteer 2.0, which has all the hallmarks of classic cringe comedy, but when the cringe moment happens, that’s not the punchline, that transforms the scene into a serious one. And it brings our two heroes closer together.

Really, the show has been doing that from the start. The whole thing where the girl makes a gift for her crush, and then encounters adversity and he never learns that she made it? That’s perfectly normal for normal american teen comedies. But here, with the scarf, they do it in a way that is heartwarming and nice. Even Marinette herself is happy that he liked the gift and that he thinks (sadly mistakenly) that his father cares for him.

When I first got into this show, that’s something I was really struggling with. I don’t like cringe stuff all that much, and Miraculous Ladybug (and specifically Marinette) steps with both feet first into classic cringe situations. That can be tough. But it always resolves them in a way that is nice and heartwarming. That’s something I really appreciate and enjoy.

Of course I also enjoy the humour, and the love square, and sometimes even the CGI fights. But a key component is this: It’s a show that in the end always chooses to be nice to its characters and its audience.

Hi! First time poster here, trying to be a bit more active on Dreamwidth because man, I've recently been missing the way discussion happened on journals. So here's a piece I'd really like to hear other people's opinions on, because I feel like I'm seeing a different story than a lot of other people are. It started out as a reply to a mutual on tumblr after we had a brief exchange about the notable absence of a certain white cat in S4, and suffice it to say that it spiralled. The tl;dr of the below cut: I feel like the fandom has agreed on something happening would makes sense logically, but which has yet to come to pass on the show:

I can’t see how Marinette is pushing Cat Noir away in S4, and certainly not that it would have anything to do with Cat Blanc. If that is in fact the story being told, then I’m either reading the show too closely, or refusing to read it close enough. So, uh. Help?

The core of everything below is this: From what I can tell, Marinette treating Cat Noir exactly like she always did - but her relying more and more on the other heroes + running the guardian business with Alya as her secondant means that she’s relying less and less on him, and Adrien takes that a lot more personally than she’s capable of comprehending.

And if Marinette isn’t pushing Cat Noir away, then the “and it’s because of Cat Blanc” has no meaning, and then why would we be talking about him at all, when the show just isn’t marking him as something we should remember?

Here I am using a super reliable method of figuring out which Chinese characters ML's various instances of tone-marker-less Pinyin in people's names refer to, which I call "poke English-language Wiktionary and hope". I would deeply, deeply appreciate any Mandarin speakers' input.

I probably did way more research than Astruc and them )

My personal suspicion is that Sabine Cheng's original name is æŸ„ć€ç‚ł ChĂ©ng XiĂ bǐng, clarify/purify magnificent/colorful bright/notable. Your mileage may, obviously, vary.

Just for fun, does anyone have any particular songs they associate with Miraculous Ladybug? Ships, characters, story arcs, anything to do with the series, really.

I'll start:

Know Your Name by Mary Lambert - My go-to LadyNoir song for especially the first two or three seasons; their dynamic has shifted a bit in the fourth, but I'm hopeful that the fifth season will bring us back closer to this! (Note: Some flashing lights at the link.)

Sample lyrics:

Lady, can I get you closer?
Lady, would you come on over?
I think I'm ready this time
I think I'd like your hand in mine

A Little Louder by Chaos Sauce/Lindby - A Juleka/Purple Tigress song! Originally from the podcast BomBARDed (Chaos Sauce is the fictional band, Lindby is the band whose members make the podcast), the entire theme of wanting be yourself and be seen, but possibly needing a little push/support on the way there feels very true to Juleka.

Sample lyrics:

I need a push to power up my roar
Turn it up and let the music soar
Louder than you’ve ever heard before
A melody that no one can ignore

Disney US will be airing one episode each Saturday morning in February, 10:00 Eastern Standard Time. In order, even!

4x05 "Psychomedian" February 5
4x20 "Qilin" February 12
4x23 "Kuro Neko" February 19
4x24 "Penalteam" February 26

I am betting this means 4x25 "Risk" March 5 and 4x26 "Strike Back" March 12, since we know those episodes were already ready, but Disney US has not released its March premiere dates yet.

Apparently PlusPlus decided not to air "Kuro Neko" until they've aired "Psychomedian" and "Qilin", and the finale not till after they've aired "Kuro Neko" and "Penalteam". Which is an excellent decision, don't get me wrong!

It's just that they didn't communicate this to anyone, including their own staff, until after when we all thought they were airing "Kuro Neko". [twitter.com profile] ChikaraYT confirmed with his contact at PlusPlus today that they would be rerunning "Gabriel Agreste" and premiering "Kuro Neko". They reran "Truth" and "Lies" instead.

"Risk" and "Strike Back" will air this week sometime. What, you wanted an actual date? Look, we're apparently lucky we get this much notice. I understand it wasn't possible to tell which ML episode the network was airing in that time slot today until it began airing.

(We do know the time slot is 21:55 Eastern European Time, which is 11:55 am Pacific Standard Time. I'd expect the fansubs to take longer than usual, given that the only time the Miraculous Ladybug fandom has previously needed Ukrainian translation for English fansubs was, uh, last time PlusPlus premiered the season finale two-part in Ukrainian dub while multiple episodes from earlier in the season were nowhere to be found.)

When will 4x05 "Psychomedian", 4x20 "Qilin", and 4x24 "Penalteam" air anywhere in the world? Not before the finale. Not on Disney US until, at earliest, February. No other information is available at this time.

[twitter.com profile] ladyofacat, official source on when we can and can't get away with watching the season out of order, says:
Yikes. Well I mean, it’s not a HUGE problem if people watch the finale before the remaining eps, you’ll understand fine, but obviously it would make more sense to watch all the other episodes first. Shame though, Kuro Neko is one of my personal favs.

Update: 4x23 "Kuro Neko" is now also expected in Ukrainian dub this week. Hopefully before the finale.

Isn't he always the villain of the piece?

Assume the comments have spoilers for all episodes that have aired in any language. The only episodes that have premiered somewhere in the world but have yet to air in English are this one, but that will change on November 20, and 4x22 "Ephemeral", which we'll get on November 27.

We're still waiting on world premiere dates for episodes 5, 20, and 23 through 26. For those of you waiting to watch the series in order, official source [twitter.com profile] ladyofacat tells us:
Now that Gabriel Agreste is out, JUST A SUGGESTION, I recommend you rewatch the episodes in order! Until Qilin (ep 20) at least? You'll enjoy the story so much more, plus you'll actually see the build up and notice patterns and clues.

Don't worry too much about ep 5.

No, the French network did not schedule this episode to air at 1:35 in the morning for both Mountain and Pacific Time because of plot reasons. I promise you the French network neither cares nor, probably, knows about US Daylight Savings timing. It would be hilariously apt if they had, though.

I've had an epiphany about when this episode is set, though of course that relies on the assumption that a seasonal treat featured in this episode belongs to the same holy day that it's ordinarily eaten in real-life France. Which it might not, since French kids' TV is apparently required to be secular, and that holiday is apparently more Christian than Notre Dame Cathedral or than Christmas itself. And if it is not, then this episode might as well be set at Mardi Gras.
